SWINGIN BUS STOP

“ Swingin Bus Stop ” 2015. Howick St, Lathlain, W.A. Mild steel, corrugated iron, paint. Commissioned by the Town of Victoria Park.

The interactive bus shelter contrasts but complements its surroundings through its modern geometric form and colour combinations.

Its unusual twisted roof and seemingly leaning form lends the structure an surreal quality, creating interest and sparking a sense of fun.  The use of the triangles in the design create a robust form.  The triangular cut-outs act as windows so that the user can see people approaching the shelter, or the bus arriving.  The shelter is approximately 3m high, 5m long and 2.5m deep, accommodating 7 or more people.  It includes a wheelchair or standing room space and seating for 4 people in addition to the large swinging seats positioned at either end.   The inclusion of the swinging seats make waiting for the bus a fun experience.
